Pole dancing at Drink and Draw in Blackburn. Not for exercise or voyeurism, but as a subject for some frenzied life drawings. I took photos for the main performance pieces and it would have been very unfair to ask the ladies to hold a pose on the poles for longer than 30 seconds, but there was still plenty of energy in the sketches that made that night. These versions have been produced in Manga Studio, based on the sketches - with the odd peek at photos to check finer detail. I've tried as much as possible to keep to the spirit of the sketch - it being all too easy to smooth the edges off and end up with something lifeless.   And here are some photos......

I've been inspired and done some more pencils for my comic, Freedom Scorned. Part of my inspiration came from watching Made You Look - an excellent documentary about illustrators and...

I love drawing people, it's the best mental exercise there is - and there's plenty of life drawing in East Lancashire to choose from. Currently I'm going to two very...

Life Drawing in East Lancashire

Now this is a bit of an oddity. Angel Falls is a detail from a larger project, the beginnings of which you can see right here. The brief was to come...

The cycling tour of Britain came through Pendle last week, and I yomped up a hill to try and capture some of the action as they finished the crawl up...

My life drawing's taken a step forward as I've been sketching a nude at Studio 22b. The artists' studio in Sough, near Earby, has started life drawing sessions, and I was there, pencil...

Nude at Studio 22b

A quick Drink and Draw post. I've tried to keep my 'finished' piece sketchy. It's very easy to lose the drawing in process, so I've concentrated on a fast inking to capture the stance and the lighting, which was really strong, while using  a limited palette and no special effects....

Ightenhill Manor House is an illustration produced for Ightenhill Parish Council, as part of my work at creative-council.net. We were commissioned by local historian Roger Frost to provide artwork for an interpretation panel, booklet and display panels, as well as producing a scale model of the 13th Century manor house. Both the illustration and model relied heavily on information provided by...

We all deserve freedom - we strive for it, fight for it and, in some cases, do terrible things to achieve it. And then what? This is the first six pages...

Freedom Scorned – the beginnings of a new graphic novel?

I saw a bit of the big painting challenge programme on tv, or as I like to call it, the Great British Paint Off. This week they were drawing and...

Holy Hoops of Hell

An amazing night at Drink and Draw in Blackburn this week with fire breathing and flaming hoop performer Leah Sophia. Had a lot of fun drawing (I'll post those later). Between sketches I photographed like a loon....
