A quick Drink and Draw post. I’ve tried to keep my ‘finished’ piece sketchy. It’s very easy to lose the drawing in process, so I’ve concentrated on a fast inking to capture the stance and the lighting, which was really strong, while using a limited palette and no special effects.
Keeping it sketchy
Holy Hoops of Hell
I saw a bit of the big painting challenge programme on tv, or as I like to call it, the Great British Paint Off. This week they were drawing and painting the human figure, which is a wonderful thing to do. During the bit that I saw, a contestant was praised for a great piece […]
Drinking and Drawing the Hooping Harlots
Blackburn’s drink and draw continues to inspire – here’s my ‘finished’ drawing from the latest session that featured the Hooping Harlots. I also took some pretty trippy photos… The first version pretty much falls in line with the other illustrations I’ve done from these sessions – but I was tempted to use Manga Studio’s watercolour […]
Victoriana
Another smashing time life drawing in Blackburn, this time with a victorian theme. Next time it’s hula hoops – can’t wait!
Blackburn Beach
Another piece inspired by a drink and draw life drawing session, this time at Blackburn Beach. Due to weather the beach was indoors but thanks to model Dave it was every bit as entertaining as a trip to the seaside.
Drink and Draw
A great new themed drawing class in Blackburn. A good opportunity to flex the life drawing muscles (atrophied since college) and set in a bar, hence the drink and draw. Though I was more draw and drive… The first event featured a burlesque theme, with Ginger La Rouge. This was nothing like Monday morning life […]
Devilish
Devilish was the self generated word of the week and here’s what I came up with. Style wise this is the most comic-book-like thing I’ve done in ages and it’s definitely indicative of things I’ve been reading in the last week or so. First up, this smashing article on comics alliance detailing Jenny Frison’s cover artwork for Ghost […]
Stargazer
A lonely stargazer provides inspiration for another sketch inspired by the fablefolk word of the week. The word was ‘finding’. I never quite make the deadline but I do have fun in the process. Ten points if you can find out where the quote comes from*. Twenty points if you can suggest a better font. […]
Zombie Hares
Zombie Hares rock! It’s an undead leporid – coming right at ya. Or just shambling off to one side like zombies do. Did this a while back as part of a the Mad March Hare meme down at the Artists’ Hangout.
Thea
More life drawing done at the Artists’ Hangout. I used photoshop to turn my sketch into something that looks like I spilled ink over it…

Lynsey
A progression from my life drawing sketch…
