The Gecko

Reading the Cecko

We didn’t win. But we had fun trying. So, with the Comic Art Festival on this weekend (17-19th October) here’s our little comic, The Gecko.   You can check out some of the initial drawings and what not here and here and here. Which is probably too many posts for one little three page strip!

Cow

I saw a cow. And the cow had attitude. Here is a drawing of that cow. I was definitely on her turf, and should leave. “What’s your problem,” she said, “you never seen a lady masticate before?”

Blackburn Beach

Another piece inspired by a drink and draw life drawing session, this time at Blackburn Beach. Due to weather the beach was indoors but thanks to model Dave it was every bit as entertaining as a trip to the seaside.

The Gecko Part III – turnaround

Colour plays an important part throughout the Gecko* – it’s only on page three that we get full colour, and then it’s not for long. I’ve now submitted the comic to the Titan Undiscovered Talent competition, which is for unpublished work –  so you can’t see it all until I know that a) we have failed or […]

The Gecko Part II – the trip

Ah, the troublesome second page, with a tricky trip and fall sequence… I think my recent life drawing sessions have really helped my drawing, but you can never get a model to hold a pose like this… Techy types will want to know that I’m using Manga Studio for the inks and colours and inDesign […]

The Gecko Part I

Daughter has kindly supplied a three page script and I’ve taken time off from work to illustrate it. Here’s a very quick post just to prove that I’m working on it – page 1, panel 2. Lots more to do, plus: the sun is shining and have a desire to spend time in it…

Drink and Draw II

Not one, but three models at June’s Drink and Draw in Blackburn. The Rockit Belly Dancers were too quick for me though; I only ever caught two at a time, at most. I like to Drink and Draw I was only drinking coffee. Drawing is difficult enough, especially when you are instructed to draw with the […]

Apathy Rules

I’ve a whole range of goodies at Society Six with my new life affirming slogan, Only Apathy Can Stop Me Now. It’s the kind of feel good, pithy, encouragement we all need to stay in bed of a morning. We all have little sayings that help us through the day. This one is less helpful […]

Drink and Draw

A great new themed drawing class in Blackburn. A good opportunity to flex the life drawing muscles (atrophied since college) and set in a bar, hence the drink and draw. Though I was more draw and drive… The first event featured a burlesque theme, with Ginger La Rouge. This was nothing like Monday morning life […]

Security Matters

A series of posters about online security matters in the work place. These posters are designed to drive workers to the intranet for more information on how to improve their own conduct in regard to security. Online security, especially in the public sector, has become a hot topic and one that the council is inspected and […]

Work Inspiration Day

Checking the camera set up

Burnley College hosted a Work Inspiration Day for children from five local schools to come and have a look at what the world of work might offer them. I was very pleased to be asked to attend and try and inspire some young folks to do graphic design. You can read more about the event […]

Lost

lost

Lost is an illustration for a poem by Ian Longstaff. We’ve submitted this piece to cardboard collective. Here’s a few variations on the theme. Ian’s poem is full of visual metaphor already, so I was anxious that my illustration didn’t just represent one of those existing ideas. Hopefully my solution has added a little to […]
