Pumpkin Soup
Pumpkin Soup is an illustration based on one of my Spooky sketch-a-thon sketches from last October. It is really just a test piece for Manga Studio, which I recently bought for my Mac. It’s an excellent programme for drawing (I use a Wacom tablet) and of all the illustration software I’ve tried this brings me closer to my old inking style. Designed primarily for producing manga and comics, Manga Studio has gorgeous, responsive, pens and brushes and, a collection of half tones just like the dear old zip-a-tone or letratone of days gone by.

Pumpkin Soup Here’s a couple more sketches, this time with half tones and dots!
Devil Girl Old Witch Lizard Man Pumpkin Soup You need to look closer to see the half tone properly…
Old Witch close up Expect more black and white goodness as I get to grips with Manga Studio. I might, just might, be tempted to do a comic.

Weets and Waterfalls
Walking up Weets Hill
My local hill, a good steep climb with rewarding views of Pendle Hill at the top.

Waterfalls in Earby
I used to live in Earby and this waterfall is squirrelled away behind the youth hostel.

Creative Council
Creative Council is the portfolio website of Burnley Council’s graphics unit, designed and built in-house (mainly by myself and MJ Hindman). We do all sorts of graphic design, illustration, photography, web design, branding, signs, email marketing and, well, all sorts of stuff.
Like a lot of the websites we’ve developed it is based on WordPress with a completely bespoke theme. The theme showcases our work with a large carousel area at the top, which uses jquery to repurpose the WordPress gallery feature. The carousel can even feature video instead of images – all images were kept to a 16:9 ratio to allow video and pictures to sit alongside each other and remain consistent.
That’s me, on the far right, by the way.
