  • Apathy Rules

    Apathy Rules

I’ve a whole range of goodies at Society Six with my new life affirming slogan, Only Apathy Can Stop Me Now.

It’s the kind of feel good, pithy, encouragement we all need to stay in bed of a morning.

We all have little sayings that help us through the day. This one is less helpful than most.

Society Six keep adding products, so I’m amazed to find that I do shower curtains now. Of the apathy range, I think my favourite is the wall clock. If you choose the black hands its very difficult to judge what time you want to start being apathetic about stuff in the first place.

  • Drink and Draw

    Drink and Draw

A great new themed drawing class in Blackburn. A good opportunity to flex the life drawing muscles (atrophied since college) and set in a bar, hence the drink and draw.

Though I was more draw and drive…

The first event featured a burlesque theme, with Ginger La Rouge. This was nothing like Monday morning life drawing at college with Ken and Betty…

I really enjoyed the night and felt inspired to work a couple of the sketches up in Manga Studio, to exercise the inking in muscles.

  • Psychedelic Warlords

    Psychedelic Warlords

On Saturday I took a trip into the musical past, as the Psychedelic Warlords performed at the Railway Venue in Bolton. Recreating two classic albums, Hawkwind’s Hall of the Mountain Grill and Robert Calvert’s Captain Lockheed and the Star Fighters, the band were amazing, bringing to life some classic tracks that I’ve never heard live before.

Craig High is an amazing front man, intoning the lines written for Arthur Brown (crazy world of…) in the Song of the Gremlin and making them his own. The real powerhouse of the group is Hawkwind’s very own ace of bass, Alan Davey (I’m a big fan).

The Psychedelic Warlords put on a spell binding performance in an intimate and colourful venue that was ideal for photography. A smashing night out.

Support was in the form of the Weird Noise Master, who completely lived up to his name.

  • Security Matters

    Security Matters

A series of posters about online security matters in the work place. These posters are designed to drive workers to the intranet for more information on how to improve their own conduct in regard to security. Online security, especially in the public sector, has become a hot topic and one that the council is inspected and judged on.

The campaign highlighted awareness of online security with regard to passwords, amongst other things. Each poster has a secret letter and all the letters rearrange into a password that can be used on the council’s intranet to access more information.

I posted some teasers for these a while back, but then forgot to follow that up with the finished work! It’s been a job that’s taken a very long time between start and finish.

The posters were based on public information and propaganda posters. Some directly reference existing works, for instance the work of Abram Games, or take inspiration from the second world war and post war era graphic artists.

Last seen as a complete set in the gents at work… Not really what I’d envisaged, but there we go…
